Why are outdoor lights planned for baseball games when it is our understanding that all high school baseball games in the county are played during the daytime? (4/5/24)
- Baseball games can be played in the evening if lights are available.
There are various adult baseball leagues beyond the high school team (Legion, The Viking Club, and Fall ball teams, etc.). It is our understanding that these teams pay a fee to the school district to use the field. (4/5/24)
- Use of the baseball field is coordinated through the West Manchester Township, not the District.
How much is the fee, AND what is the total amount of such fees received annually? (4/5/24)
- There are no fees collected by the District.
If these fees are used toward general maintenance of the field(s), could anything left over go towards paying off the debt? (4/5/24)
- West Manchester Township pays for the baseball field's grass mowing, and West York Area School District pays for general maintenance.
Will street parking be allowed along Brenda Road?
- Only the Township can post signage and enforce a no-parking mandate on Township roads.
- The Trimmer Athletic Fields project is designed to address some congestion and parking issues on Brenda Road by adding parking spaces and re-routing the parent drop-off/pick-up.
- The project includes increasing the parking along Brenda Road to 90 spaces from the 42 current spaces available.
Why can't we make one of the baseball fields a softball field? Why can't we have open space? This area needs open space!
- Softball and baseball fields are not the same dimensions, and the pitching mound is different; therefore, using the same field for both sports would not work.
- Concerning open space, Sunset Lane Park, covering about 17 acres, is adjacent to the Trimmer Elementary campus, where the ballfields are located.
What will the field surface be for the baseball and softball fields? Will artificial turf be used?
- Both fields will be natural grass. No artificial turf will be used on these fields.
Please describe the strategies the district will be using to mitigate stormwater from Brenda Road and the land they will be making impervious. (There were several questions regarding stormwater off Brenda Road and Potomac).
- The District's responsibility for stormwater management will be addressed during the zoning meetings conducted with West Manchester Township.
Will any lighting (poles, etc) shine into the houses?
- Light poles will contain LED directional lighting, and every effort will be made to direct lighting away from homes. The District will develop regulations for how late the lights will be permitted to stay on.
I understand Title IX concerns, but I do not understand why we wouldn't improve a field (we have three at Trimmer) that already exists.
- Relocation of the softball field from its current location is necessary to fulfill the proposed plans on the main campus.
- Additionally, locating the softball facilities with the current baseball field allows one fieldhouse (restrooms/concession/storage) to be constructed instead of two separate facilities.
- We are making efforts to consolidate space and facility use.
